The John Pidgeon Speech Awards results are in!
This year, CSR launched a new speech initiative which asked students and members of the community to produce a 20-minute radio script and production to be considered for a cash prize in the John Pidgeon Awards.
The award ceremony, held at The Parrot in Canterbury, was glittered with high profile radio guests including The Now Show Producer Colin Anderson and BBC 6 Music’s 7-times Sony Award Winner Jon Holmes.
CYSM director John Tagholm opened the ceremony and introduced John Pidgeon, who worked with top names in the media industry during his time as BBC Head of Entertainment. Jon Holmes was then invited to talk and proceeded to tell stories of his time in the radio business and the trouble he has managed to get himself in and out of along the way.
The 2011 winners were:
Best Radio Script – Charles Meyrick: Glory Glory Romania
Best Radio Play – Rick Suter: To The Castle And The Moon Men
Tale of Woe was awarded Runner-up in both categories.
Each piece will be played out across CSR in the summer, so watch this space for more information.
For 2012, students and members of the community are eligible to enter, once becoming members of the station. Applications for entries open in September, with bigger plans envisaged including workshops and valuable prizes such as work experience placements.
