Student Radio Awards 2009

CSR Radio, have won their second prestigious national award. The community radio station was shortlisted for 'Best Live event or Outside Broadcast' and won Silver at the 2009 SRAs, for their 3-day live coverage of the 2009 Lounge On The Farm festival. This year around 500 entries were made to the SRA Awards, with CSR landing a place in the last 6 for its category.
This Live broadcast was a huge project for CSR, with many problems along the way. The transmission site being 4 miles from the farm and so CSR had major technical issues in building a temporary studio, in a dilapidated pig shed found on the farm. Richard Bonner, Head of the Engineering team for the project, then had to negotiate a whole range of other problems, from establishing an internet connection to securing power and an FM signal from the shed. The broadcasting of this event was a huge task for all members who took part and a great achievement for the station. This event was a huge success, much to the work of the CSR team.
'To have been nominated and subsequently won in such a high profile award ceremony, is testament to the hard work of everyone involved in our coverage of Lounge On The Farm. The logisitics of both broadcasting from a farm and keeping three-days of live broadcast fresh, professional and entertaining are huge and I know a number of our radio competitors were very impressed with what with what CSR achieved, despite all staff being unpaid and relatively inexperienced volunteers. Personally, I have worked for larger stations with bigger budgets, who would have struggled to have pulled that off so smoothly. Everyone involved should be extremely proud of this nomination and the subsequent award.' - Jamie Stephens, Media Manager
